STEP-G: Five locations, 10 extrusion presses - development into a global partner for lightweight solutions - new: 100 MN press!
The automotive industry has been calling for a long time. In the meantime, it is also relevant for many other industries. We are talking about complete solutions with extruded aluminium profiles, the material that combines weight savings with high stability and can always be recycled.
ST Extruded Products Group, STEP-G for short, develops innovative complete solutions together with its customers as an innovative partner for extruded profiles. With currently five locations - three in Germany, one in Belgium and one in China - customers from all over the world are supplied. The transition from being a standard product provider to the specialist is ensured by the specialization at the individual STEP-G production sites. Casting, extruding of normal and large profiles with special alloys as well as demanding further profile processing including all possible surfaces offer the customers great potential for the production of customized profiles. The dynamic corporate group thus covers the entire value chain and moves closer to its customers and their requirements.
Modernization and upgrade 100 MN press
STEP-G operates one of the largest extrusion presses in Europe. Recently, the company made a major investment in the modification of the press in Bonn and overcame the breaking through of the 100 MN. This allows profiles with dimensions of up to 750 mm width and 100 mm height, as well as seamless tubes with an outer diameter of 450 mm. Combined with the integrated further processing, a high level of vertical integration is possible.
The conversion measures included software optimization on the pump system sequence control, programming of a pump selection automatic and the increase of the hydraulic pressure up to 310 bar. This allows a permanent pressing force of 100 MN.
Furthermore, a larger production facility for the fully automated production of bumper systems has recently been put into operation. The plant has an annual production capacity of up to 600,000 bumpers. The production and complete machining of components with the tightest tolerances takes place with an identical plant layout globally at the locations in Germany and in China.
Lightweight solutions from a single source
Through investments of several dozen millions coupled with employee qualification within the STEP Group, the competence and ability to meet the most difficult customer requirements is being steadily expanded. STEP-G offers comprehensive expertise for innovative lightweight solutions. The company is currently benefiting from the strong demand in the transport sector, particularly in rail and automotive
In the innovative and fast-growing environment of e-mobility, STEP-G has repeatedly demonstrated its expertise and won various orders as a parts supplier for well-known original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The increase in these inquiries have a decidedly positive effect on the order situation and the associated production capacity utilization. "Our customers value our expertise in lightweight solutions. That's why we manage to stand out from our competitors and receive exciting and innovative projects in the automotive and rail vehicle industry," explains Michael Zint, Managing Director at STEP-G.
STEP-G is a pioneer in employee development
STEP-G is a pioneer in employee development to meet the increased demands and challenges. For example in the past year, STEP-G was named as one of the thirty best employers for its commitment to the employees, according to a study by the Deutschen Unternehmensbörse (DUB). At STEP-G, the main focus is on the evolvement, promotion and development of the employee as well as the transfer of responsibility. For this reason, the specific working time models in the production as well as flexible working hours in the administrative area strengthen the sense of responsibility in the STEP-G group and promote the reconciliation of working and private life. With its currently 900 employees, STEP-G is a strong partner in the aluminium market and well prepared for future developments and complex projects.
