STEP-G on its way to intelligent production

Industry 4.0 – these are highly advanced, robot-based and digitized companies with automation technology as well as complex machine systems and production lines. For some time medium-sized and large companies have been looking for specific solutions for an intelligent production. The focus are sustainable process developments and reduced workload with the help of automated processes and automation techniques.

ST Extruded Products Group, STEP-G for short, implemented an investment of several hundred thousand euros in a high sophisticated machining centre for the modernisation and automation of the further fabrication as part of the project "industry 4.0 – optimisation of the value-added further fabrication". The focus in the realisation of the project was on the productivity increase as well as the health of the employees. For this purpose robot cell boxes with a high precision and mobility rate were installed which open up new possibilities for an automation technology at STEP-G.

With the new robot production cells it’s possible to realise a substantial increase in productivity. Also the individualisation of products in the further fabrication at STEP-G must be assessed in the light of the new robot. The skilled workers complement the production with their long-standing experience and furthermore have free capacities for additional, customer-oriented project services. The robot-based quality management leads to a very early error detection and high resource efficiency. The new robot cells ensure an automated cleaning and removal system for customer profiles from STEP-G. Another very important aspect is a sustainable work facilitation and care of the employees, which is reflected in a reduced disease and accident rate. STEP-G believes: Safety first!
